Jonah Rank was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary and received a MA in Jewish Thought in May 2015. Rank’s writings have appeared in several Jewish journals, including Conservative Judaism, Journal of Synagogue Music, and Shma Now: A Journal of Jewish Sensibilities. Having served as the secretary for Mahzor Lev Shalem (New York, NY: Rabbinical Assembly 2010) and Siddur Lev Shalem (New York, NY: Rabbinical Assembly 2015), Rank publishes a variety of pedagogic and liturgical resources online—creative as well as traditional. Recognized by The Forward‘s “Soundtrack of Our Spirit” in 2015, Rank—who composes, records and performs in a variety of musical genres on a variety of musical instruments—was commissioned by Behrman House to provide original music for Hebrew In Harmony. Currently, Rank serves part-time as the Maskil (“teacher of tradition”) of Shaar Shalom in Halifax, Nova Scotia, alongside Rank’s spouse, Rabbi Dr. Raysh Weiss, who serves as the community’s full-time rabbi. When not performing rabbinic duties, Rank’s full-time work revolves around raising the Weiss-Rank progeny.
